On Monday, September 11, Lake Windsor Middle had a horrifying incident. There was a sinkhole that sucked many portables in, Paul Fisher, Joey Costello and other students came to the rescue and pulled all kids before the portable went down. All this commotion happened because it hadn’t stopped raining for the past two weeks or so.
These sinkholes happen because the ground didn’t have enough support due to the rain. The ground came tumbling down with a noise sounding like loud blasts of thunder. The ground was so wet that when it fell inward the portables slid down and in getting torn to pieces. The water was rushing from the floods of the field and made it look like a manmade pond.
After observing it people estimated that it was about twenty-five feet deep and would take a while to fix. The sinkholes happen because limestone and salt beds that dissolve by ground water going through them. These rocks are in about 35 to 40 percent of the United States and destroy many places around the area.
The school is very afraid of what they will do about all these portables gone and all the students without classes. Paul, Joey and all of the other brave students should be rewarded for saving those scared kids and teachers. Sinkholes often happen around that area because the rain has been very continuous around the school and has made the ground instead, leading to many more sinkholes. Unless we try to dry up the area these things will keep happening so we need your help!
Lake Windsor Middle was already a low ranked school they have gangs, portables and now a field with a gigantic whole right smack dab in the middle. They are all worked up about what has happened and can not place these kids anywhere else because all they have are portables. They don’t want to risk having other kids being hurt or lost to another sinkhole.Lake
Windsor has gone through a rough time with the sinkhole and the placing of the kids. To help we need to be able to put these kids in a safer environment.
